Scientific Research

WUAVF Hellas wishes to play a significant role in finding solutions for some of humanity’s biggest problems using advanced technologies. We have the network to connect big industries with inventors, researchers and ambitious startups, that are willing to take the next step with us through our scheduled Talent Acquisition Auditions and subsequent business development mentoring. In order to leverage full potential of UAVs within our geographic region, our Scientific Research  department is moving to the concept of the drone as a device connected and autonomous at the same time. With that said WUAVF Hellas focus on the promotion of any innovation idea or project relevant to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of things (IoT).

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Today, drones have two (2) parts: the aircraft and a control system. Sophisticated drones are equipped with state-of-the-art technology the uses Artificial Intelligence (AI), a branch of computer science that specializes in creating intelligent machines that think and act like humans.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used to create machines that perform tasks more efficiently than humans, allowing them to work in stressful environments, 24 hours a day, all year long. Rather than send people to track progress on a specific task, UAVs can instantly generate a report on any activity across a job site from the air.
As a well-known serial entrepreneur says, aerial Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making data that once took hours, days and weeks, available to humans and machines in real time. For example:

“If you have thousands of surveillance cameras, you typically don’t have the staff to watch them in real time-you used them only to go back in history. With Artificial Intelligence (AI) you can change that; you can simulate a human looking at the video for all thousands of cameras”.

If Artificial Intelligence (AI) develops as rapidly as we have seen in the recent years, we will soon find highly automated and comprehensive solutions that will further increase the added value of using drones.

Internet of things (IoT)

The Internet of things (IoT) is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects or people that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. Increasingly organizations in a variety of industries are using IoT to operate more efficiently, better understand customers to deliver enhanced customer service, improve decision-making and increase the value of a business.

IoT and Computer Vision technologies are key enablers of drone-based industrial automation. Firstly, more investments are coming into the drone development area providing for its progress. In May 2018 for example, Microsoft announced its new partnership with DJI regarding the manufacturing of drones with the IoT technologies giants.

A drone which is equipped with different cameras and sensors of different types, is capable of collecting extensive volumes of data which is otherwise not easily accessed by humans. But a drone can be much more than a mere collector, as it can interconnect with other data collecting devices and pass the gathered data to an operator, connected within a single IoT ecosystem.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in relation to Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL) Motion Planning and Internet of things (IoT) are the hottest topics globally and we are delighted to have the expertise and proven record background to lead people on and support such initiatives.
